Home stretch of making ye old chair! I think I was procrastinating getting started because the project felt a bit daunting—or maybe because I convinced myself I needed several uninterrupted days to “knock it out.” Looking back, I’m not really sure why I had that mindset. Once all my slabs and extruded pieces reached the right hardness, the construction process was actually pretty straightforward and came together quickly.

There are definitely things I’d change, but overall, the piece is more or less what I set out to make. I really enjoyed the challenge of trying something completely new. I’ve never made a ceramic work like this before, and while it came with its fair share of difficulties, it also reminded me that I have more range than I often give myself credit for. I’m glad I took the leap—and I’m excited to keep pushing outside my comfort zone in the work that’s still to come.
