Taking a break while my chair dries to throw some functional work for the woodfire. As I was reviewing my glaze tests, I started thinking about how to incorporate textured surfaces in a way that still feels sanitary. I had the idea to pull handles and create a textured panel as part of the form.
I forgot how much I enjoy throwing—especially on a good throwing day :)
As I was considering ways to add texture while still keeping things functional, I started thinking more intentionally about how glazes can play a role in that balance. I’m interested in using glazes that break over texture to enhance those panels visually—glossy finishes that catch light on the raised areas, or matte ones that settle into the crevices and create contrast.
